I am just about to sprint off to catch my ferry back to Helsinki, but I have just enough time to tell you I am well and somewhat thawing out :-)
Riga treated me exceptionally well for my birthday abroad. I took myself to a traditional restaurant for an authentic Latvian dinner (steak and potatoes -- I love this place!), and vanilla ice cream with chocolate sprinkles for dessert. Just scrumptuous, after some sketchy meals Ive had the past few days. After dinner, I decided to burn off some of those extra calories by going ice skating at the outdoor rink in the open square just a few yards from my hotel. It was really embarassing, but I surprised myself by how much fun I had, clinging to the rail as I got up as much speed as I dared. The little kids, half my height, were wizzing by and yucking it up... but then, so was I!
This morning I was half frozen by the end of my walking tour of Old Town Riga, and ready for hot coffee and lunch. Since then, Ive been wandering the streets, especially admiring the amber jewelry shops, of which there are hundreds.
For today I bid you adieu. Love you!

Tory - there was a note to you from Aunt Dee on Bopcha's blog "...We will party down as soon as you return, Tory! Love, Aunt Dee and family. I'm not sure if you have time to check Bopcha's blog as well as your own, plus emails. It has to be an adventure using all those different keyboards. We all send you love and will be happy to hear the ship sailed you safely to Helsinki. Love Mother
ReplyDeleteDawn is breaking--it's 6 am and the hounds are getting restless, ready to go out for their morning constitutionals. Tom's still tucked in bed, and here I am, checking my favorite blogs for news before I start my day. We'll be attending our coursing club's annual awards dinner. We've owned the perpetual trophy so long it seemed like ours, but this year we lost out by one point so the trophy goes to a NM friend. Not a bad thing, although we much prefer to win. I imagine at this very moment, you are tucked into some comfy (hopefully) bed and are nice and warm, with the cold safely shut outside, dreaming of Lisbon, Barcelona, and other warmer climes. We love you, we love reading about your escapades. Hugs and kisses and lots of love from your loving mom. mom.
ReplyDeleteLove you Mom and Dad!
